My artwork consists of pen and ink watercolor paintings rendered in a loose, whimsical style. Rather than striving for photographic realism, I focus on capturing the feeling of a place — the emotion, character, and spirit that locals recognize instantly.
I’m drawn to historic buildings, small-town landmarks, and scenes rooted in local history. My strong line work gives personality and energy to each piece, while watercolor allows me to express mood and atmosphere. Artists James Richards and Ian Fennelly have influenced my style, encouraging me to explore the expressive power of line and color.
Through my paintings, I hope to share not just what a place looks like — but what it feels like.
There is great JOY in the moment.
Watercolor painting is my way of slowing down and truly seeing. When you sketch a scene, you don’t just glance at it — you engage with it. You observe the light, the angles, the rhythm of lines. You paint what you feel, not just what you see.
Art isn’t magic reserved for a talented few. It’s a skill — one that can be learned and developed with patience and practice. My own journey began through Urban Sketching and online study with artists like James Richards and Ian Fennelly. I spent countless hours sketching Old Town Helotes, a place that resonates deeply with me.
With local historian Cynthia Leal Massey, those sketches became my first book, The Art of Helotes. My goal was simple: create heartfelt, engaging artwork that allows others to experience Old Town through my eyes.
